Creating an impeccable female image requires attractiveness in every detail, and this concept is expressed not only in a fashionable outfit, skillfully selected makeup and hairstyle. Without well-groomed nails and a beautiful manicure, no image will look complete and complete. Modern variations of nail designs are presented in a wide variety, which allows girls and women to choose the ideal design for a particular event or for every day. Matte manicure in this case is very popular, and all kinds of interpretations with glitter look especially beautiful and chic on the nails. How you can competently play with the proposed design idea on your nails in order to emphasize the individuality of the image and highlight the beauty of your hands, read on.
Fashion trends in matte nail design with glitter
Matte manicure design is considered one of the most fashionable trends in the world of nail art, and nails with a velvety finish fit perfectly into women's looks and are combined with different lengths of nails. The matte finish favorably emphasizes well-groomed hands and looks decent in any situation. Nails with this design do not play with glare, but fascinate with their grace and reveal the depth of the shades of the varnish.
A fashionable matte manicure can be red and white, black and blue, or in one of the nude or beige tones - it all depends on your mood and taste preferences. As for the choice of glitter, the matte base goes wonderfully with foil and glitter, metallic stripes, kamifubuki and other materials.
What is the top for?
The widespread use of manicure and the presence of voluminous design elements directly depend on the quality of the finishing layer - the top. Let's consider its main properties:
- protects against mechanical damage, scratches, cracks. This is possible due to the formation of an elastic thin layer that increases the flexibility and strength of the nail surface;
- The composition includes active UV filters that protect manicure from the sun. The colors of the gel polish do not fade;
- protection against hard water and chemicals, for example, solutions with acids and alkalis, dishwashing liquids and other compounds;
- allows you to apply any original decor to your nails, the top will securely fix everything. To perform high-quality nail extensions, you also need a finish that will protect and hold together.

White matte manicure with glitter
The popularity of this design idea is based, first of all, on the versatility of the color, because if you need to carefully select a pair for other shades, then in the case of white varnish you don’t have to think about these details. The same rules apply when using glitter. The white matte base will look wonderful with any sparkling addition. This can be one of the variants of a single-color manicure with small glitter located at the base of the nail plate, or nail art with a scattering of silver or colored fragments in the form of a gradient.
Using glitter, you can create a French manicure, highlight a lunula, or focus attention on one of the nail plates. Shiny stripes or kamifubuki compositions in the shape of stars, hearts or diamonds will look no less original and attractive on a velvety white base.
About variance
Let us separately focus on the dispersion (sticky) layer. As you know, after drying in a lamp, gel polish forms a sticky layer on the surface, which is necessary for adhesion to the decor and finishing top. But when drying the finishing top in the lamp, a sticky layer may also appear if the top was purchased with a sticky layer.
In recent seasons, tops without dispersion have become increasingly popular. Why is a sticky layer needed on the final finishing coat, is it possible to do without it, which topcoat is better to choose - there are many questions. Let's consider the advantages of LS and BLS tops in more detail.

Fashionable matte nail art with glitter in red tones
Red nails always attract attention and in some cases they can even look too expressive. Therefore, the combination of such a catchy color with a matte top can be called an ideal duet, since the velvety structure is capable of revealing the depth of the chosen shade on the one hand, and restraining its energy on the other.
Red matte nails with glitter can be designed in a French style with sparkling fragments placed on the tip of the nail plate in the form of a triangle, or they can be a single-color design with a full coating of glitter on the ring finger. Foil prints or drawings made with liquid glitter look very nice on such a base.
Black matte nails with glitter accents
Many fashionistas try not to use such an extraordinary and dark color to create a manicure, and this is absolutely in vain. Black varnish has long been classified as classic, and when properly designed it looks very stylish and elegant. In addition, black matte nails go wonderfully with any type of glitter, be it large fragments of the original shape or the smallest particles in the form of powder. On such a dark base, you can create a design in the style of a starry sky and marble nail art made with foil prints, as well as make shiny lunulae or stretch glitter from the base to the tip.
Kamifubuki
Perhaps the most sophisticated in manicure are the Japanese. They come up with many unusual and sometimes crazy designs, which, thanks to social networks, are scattered all over the world.
It was the Japanese who introduced kamifubuki - multi-colored foil confetti - into fashion. They are sold in special jars and can have almost any shape. Each of the elements can be taken with tweezers and laid out on the nails in the form of a pattern, or you can simply sprinkle them on your nails so that they lie in a chaotic order.
A scattering of dots or stars goes well with other techniques, for example, on top of a French manicure or a coating with a smooth color transition.
Matte manicure with blue polish and glitter
This type of design will be the perfect complement to a denim style look. The main thing is to choose a shade that suits your appearance type. The list of current offers includes a classic monochromatic matte finish with glitter highlighting one or two accent nails, a manicure with shiny lunulae and “stars.” Shiny chaotic stripes or transparent areas, the outline of which is drawn with glitter, look no less impressive on a blue velvety base. This manicure will not leave your hands unattended and, if desired, can easily be used as New Year’s nail art.
A duet of pink polish and glitter in a matte manicure
Pink shades have always been associated with tenderness and romance, so such ideas are sure to appeal to delicate and sensitive natures. Matte manicure in pink tones using glitter can be performed in various variations, since any interpretation of it can complement the image with notes of femininity and lightness. Even if we are talking about covering the nail plates with a fuchsia or raspberry shade. You can use shiny particles to highlight your ring finger or design it in a French style. Sparkling patterns on a matte basis, shiny stretch marks and many other ideas will look no less beautiful and elegant.
Beige matte manicure with glitter
The popularity of the combination of beige varnish and glitter can only be compared with classic French or single-color nail art, and matte beige with glitter in this design looks especially interesting. Laconicism and minimalism in this case are harmoniously combined with the radiance of particles, as a result of which the manicure confidently takes a leading position and perfectly complements any image.
Using glitter, you can highlight the tip or base of the nail plate, completely cover one of the nails, or apply a simple pattern. You shouldn’t get too carried away with the number of sparkling fragments, since it’s very easy to cross the line between “beautiful” and “repulsive” on such a calm and balanced basis. Highlighting one or more fingers with a velvety coating will be quite enough.
How to use it so that the result confirms your expectations
Glitter is not a beauty product for professional use, so mastering the rules for handling reflective pieces will not be difficult. Here a lot depends on the type of material.
If you choose a liquid texture, then simply distribute the product over the nail plate and achieve the required distribution density of microparticles:
- if you want the sparkles to completely cover the nail, fish them out
- with a brush from the bottle, apply several layers of shiny varnish;
- if you need a single presence, one layer is enough for you.
Glitter is not a beauty product for professional use, so mastering the rules of handling reflective pieces will not be difficult. Just sprinkle the iridescent particles over the nail. Having covered the nails with a layer of enamel, dip your fingers in a jar of glitter before the coating has time to dry.
The dry texture suggests several application options. :
- Having covered your nails with a layer of enamel, dip your fingers into a jar of glitter before the coating has time to dry. The base color does not matter much, as it will be almost invisible under the shimmering beauty. The movements should be smooth, slightly swaying, so that the particles evenly cover the entire plate. However, this method can be called artisanal due to the excessive consumption of material and the need to remove excess from the skin and cuticle;
- just sprinkle the iridescent particles over your nail. This option is also expensive and troublesome, but its advantage is the ability to achieve a scattering effect or even something like an ombre;
- This technique is much more convenient. Take a brush and use it to spread the decor over the nail. The result is much neater and cleaner, there is no need to remove excess from the cuticle, and the cost of the material itself is much lower. In addition, the brush can be used to cover individual areas of the plate, for example, the tip or the hole at the base;
- When working with colored dust, after applying colored varnish and top-end beauty product, dry each layer. Remove the sticky layer. Then cover the desired area with topcoat. You can either completely paint over this area, or draw some kind of pattern or ornament. Sprinkle your finger with shimmering pollen and dry it in a lamp. After that, shake off the excess and admire the result. The pigment will remain only in those places where there was a wet fixative, forming a beautiful three-dimensional pattern.
Advice! Place a large sheet of paper on your work table. This way you can easily collect the scattered decor back into the container to use the microparticles in the future.
As has already become clear, simply sprinkling glitter on undried varnish is not enough; it must be further strengthened. Gel polishes are best suited for the job. Their polymerization guarantees reliability and long-term preservation of the original appearance.
Simply sprinkling glitter on wet varnish is not enough; it must be further strengthened. Gel varnishes are best suited for the job. Their polymerization guarantees reliability and long-term preservation of the original appearance.
If you use regular varnishes, there is a high probability of chipping within a few days after creating the beauty.
Velvet nails with glitter in nude shades
Nude manicure is considered one of the most delicate and sophisticated. And in the case of a matte design, sophistication and elegance are added to these qualities. To decorate such nails it is not necessary to resort to any intricate or complex techniques. A thin shiny stripe on the tips of the nail plates in the form of a French jacket, a stretch made like a gradient using particles of different sizes, or a sparkling composition on the nail plate of the ring finger will allow matte nails to look more interesting and expressive.
Matte manicure is always something unpredictable, since no one, even an experienced master, can predict how exactly this or that shade will manifest itself in this design. The velvety structure certainly softens and mutes the colors, but at the same time allows each of them to reveal their depth and character. In this case, glitter only contributes to this process.
How to apply glitter on nails?
Next, we'll look at 5 different ways to use glitter in nail designs. I will also show with examples all the nuances of how to do it correctly and how not to do it correctly.
Method 1 – rubbing glitter into gel polish
The first way is to consider the option of rubbing glitter onto the entire nail. This can only be done on gel polish. Rubbing glitter is done using a thick brush (or applicator) onto a sticky layer of colored gel polish, thus sequentially filling the entire surface of the nail. Therefore, for this method, the gel polish must have a dispersion. In addition, you should choose a gel polish close to the color of the glitter or take white/black, since the layer of glitter here is very thin and can be greatly distorted because of this.
Once the rubbing is complete, you can go over it with your finger or a lint-free cloth to make sure that there is nothing unnecessary left on the nail. Here you can even send your nail to dry in a lamp for a few seconds. A design with glitter made in this way requires covering with a layer of top coat.
Rubbing in the same way can be done not only on the entire nail, but also on the drawing. I showed an example of such a design on my blog.
Important ! It is advisable to use a separate top coat or a separate brush for working with glitter, because... small elements may still end up in the bottle.
Method 2 – sprinkling with glitter
Let's consider the second option for applying glitter - sprinkles.
- Cover the nail with top coat and, without drying, sprinkle glitter with a thick brush. The topping is made voluminous enough so that there is no wet spot left on the nail.
- Now we send it to dry.
- Excess glitter can be easily brushed off with a brush.
This option for applying glitter does not require covering with a top coat, because... in this case, all its zest will be lost and the coating will become similar to the usual application of gel polish with glitter. Compare how these sparkles look without a top and when we covered one of them with a layer of top. The difference is obvious.
Method 3 – stretching with glitter on nails
The third option is to stretch it with glitter on gel polish. Here everything is very similar to rubbing, with the only difference being that the glitter coating is not completed to the end, leaving the part of the nail with the colored coating visible. Upon completion, cover the design with a layer of topcoat. Can be performed both on the entire nail and on part of it. For example, now it is very possible to make a strip in the center of the nail in the form of a stretch:
Method 4 – mixing glitter with top coat
And another option for applying glitter is mixing them with top coat. This method is most suitable for making designs with sparkles, for example, a French moon or moon manicure and others. In my example, I used the first option.
- On the palette, mix the glitter with the top until it reaches a thick, viscous consistency (not a mush).
- Using a thin brush, paint with French glitter. For small sparkles, 1 layer will be enough.
- After drawing, apply two layers of top, leveling the nail plate, because glitter gives volume.
However, there is one big nuance here: you should take small glitters for the design, otherwise you will not get clear boundaries of the design, but it itself will be very voluminous, which will make it difficult to align the nail plate. Compare two versions of French with large and small sparkles and how clearly the border is visible in one case, and how blurry they are in the second.
Method 5 – sprinkling the design with glitter
And the last use of glitter that we will look at here is as a sprinkle on a design.
- Gel polish is first applied to the nails and covered with a top coat.
- The design is made on top of the top with gel paint or gel polish. It is very popular to draw monograms using this technique.
- Without drying, sprinkle glitter on top.
- Then dry and shake off the excess with a fan or other fluffy brush.
This way you can combine glitter colors for different design elements.
I hope that in this article you found all the answers to the questions of how to apply glitter on your nails, how to fix them and use them in one or another type of nail design. And that’s all for me, bye-bye!
