One of the ways to hide the imperfections of a natural nail plate is extensions. This process is quite labor-intensive and takes a lot of time and effort. Therefore, it is not surprising that most girls have many questions about technology and other organizational issues. Women want to know how much nail extensions cost, what materials are used, and how this process will affect the condition of natural nails.
In addition to this, a whole lot of other nuances arise. Many people are interested in whether it is harmful to extend artificial nails with gel, or to prefer another material? It is very important for someone to know whether it is possible to paint extended nails with varnish? Why do material detachments appear after modeling, and is it painful? This list can be continued indefinitely. We have collected the most popular and common questions about nail extensions and answered the most exciting and interesting of them.
Cost of artificial ends extensions
There is no clear and specific answer to this question, since the formation of the price for artificial lengthening of the nail plate depends on many factors. If you need information on how much nail extensions cost, then first of all, consider the following important points.
- The region in which you live. If you get your nails extended not in Moscow, but in some remote region, then the price of this procedure will be significantly lower than in the capital.
- Master's qualification. A specialist with enormous experience, who is constantly improving his skills, will do tip modeling much better than a self-taught person. You yourself understand how much professionalism costs in such a responsible matter.
- Salon or home. You can also grow your nails at home. This service is cheaper than a salon procedure. Renting a room significantly affects the price of a manicure.
- Desired design. After direct modeling, the master will optionally decorate the extended nails with a beautiful design or decor. Of course, a fantasy design costs much more than a classic French design, which is easy to do. Also, the price is determined based on the length of artificial nails. The size of the free edge affects the amount of material consumed and, accordingly, affects the cost of the extension.
- The condition of your hands. Before starting to extend nails with gel or other material, the master needs to prepare them for this procedure. Sometimes a preliminary manicure takes a long time due to the neglected condition of the hands. This may also affect the price.
Answering the question of how much modeling of artificial ends costs, we can say that the price ranges from 800-3000 rubles and depends on the factors we have listed. Our advice: do not skimp on nail extensions . It’s better to spend a little more money, but you will be sure that the master will do everything efficiently and without harm to your health.
How to extend the life of gel polish?
To extend the service life of the coating, it is necessary to improve the adhesion of the nail to the polymers. For these purposes, preliminary grinding is carried out in order to lift the scales and fluff the surface of the nail. Next, a dehydrator is applied, which removes moisture from the hands and primer. It can be acid-free. In this case, it plays the role of double-sided tape, gluing the nail plate and artificial coating, thereby prolonging its durability.
How to extend the wear of gel polish:
- Acid primer is used on damp and problematic nails. It does not leave a film on the nails, but at the same time it dries out the plate greatly, making it rough. This significantly extends the wear life of the coating. When using preparatory materials, the choice of which depends on the characteristics of the nail plate, durability increases significantly. It does not always make sense to use an acid primer, especially if your nails are quite strong, durable and thick, and do not have high humidity. In this case, an acid-free primer and a dehydrator are sufficient.
- The durability of the coating is affected by the hardness of the base. Therefore, in some cases, hard bases are recommended. However, you shouldn’t just apply them to the surface of the nail. It is recommended to make the substrate from a thin layer of soft rubber base, which is very flexible.
- It flexes with the nail, thereby providing some cushion or layer between the natural nail and the hard material. Very often, hard bases can peel off from the soft nail plate. Therefore, it is imperative to apply a backing made of soft rubber bases.

Is nail extension procedure harmful?
Do you want to know whether gel and acrylic nail extensions are harmful? For those who have experienced thinning and weakening of the natural nail plate after removing artificial tips, it is necessary to understand why this happened. There may be several reasons. Of course, under extended nails, the family stops resisting external factors and gradually weakens. In addition, when removing artificial material, carelessness can cause damage to the natural plate by sawing off its upper layers.
Therefore, after removing the sculpted tips, give your fingers a few weeks to recover. If you have contacted a good specialist, then you will have no doubts about whether nail extensions are harmful to your body. With the right approach to business, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Disadvantages of gel extensions
We already know how long gel nail extensions last. This is their huge advantage. But it's time to mention the shortcomings. Compared to acrylic coating, gel is more brittle and fragile. Even if an acrylic nail can be easily corrected or simply repaired, then if the gel plate breaks this issue disappears by itself, because it cannot be repaired. The broken nail will simply need to be removed and a new one made. The gel also cannot withstand very sudden changes in temperature conditions; it instantly begins to crack. Popularly, gel tip extensions are called reinforced concrete, which means it will be very difficult to remove such luxury. Only the filing procedure will help - long, tedious, and very careful so as not to damage the natural nail.
Rules for caring for extended nails
Gel-extended ends need extra attention and special care. No one can say with certainty how long long nail extensions last until they experience it for themselves. Careful care and adherence to certain rules will allow you to wear artificial ends for about 3-4 weeks. We will give you some tips on how to care for your extended nails to avoid peeling.
- Protect your nails from sudden changes in temperature and detergents that are harmful to the delicate skin of your hands. When doing any housework with extensions, try to wear gloves. Sometimes artificial plates crack from sudden immersion in cold and hot water, and then fall off completely. To prevent pain later, your nails need careful care.
- Use nail polish and nail polish remover that does not contain acetone. Applying such products to your nails is harmful, because after their use the tips become dull and brittle.
- Caring for extended nails requires timely correction, which is carried out every 2-4 weeks. How long does the procedure take, and is it painful? An experienced master will cope with this task deftly and quickly. Almost all girls claim that there is no pain during correction.
- After nail extensions with gel or acrylic, you should not take strengthening baths with salt or herbs; it is better to take gentle care with nourishing creams and lotions.
- Files and tweezers for natural nail plates should be replaced with special tools for artificial nails. For tips modeled with gel, it is harmful to perform a manicure if you do not have the necessary tools, since artificial nails crack and break. Sometimes it hurts and causes discomfort. Proper care of extended nails guarantees the excellent condition of your manicure for a long time.
How long does strengthening gel polish last?
The durability of gel polish is affected by the method of strengthening. Some nails are quite strong and hard by nature and have a good thickness. For them, conventional preparation using an acid-free primer and a plastic rubber base is sufficient. The coating wears well on these nails. Unfortunately, manicurists have few such clients. In most cases, due to a lack of vitamins and individual characteristics of the body, nails can be thin, and sometimes resemble rags or pieces of paper.
In this case, it is almost impossible to achieve durability of the coating for 2-3 weeks without using additional reinforcement. Soft nails, when covered with a layer of rubber base and gel polish, curl and bend, thereby causing cracks to form on the surface. As a result, the coating comes off in pieces or sheets. To prevent this from happening, it is recommended to reinforce it with a solid material.
Materials for strengthening the nail plate:
- Base with acrylic powder
- Self-leveling liquid gel
- Polygel
How long does strengthening gel polish last?
- The wearing period often exceeds 1 month. Strengthened nails do not bend, so the coating holds well.
- The choice of this or that material depends on the experience of the master and the characteristics of his hands. Sometimes the coating barely wears on wet hands with thin nails. In this case, it is recommended to cover the nails with a base layer, and lay gel on top of it, cutting out the natural nail from the inside, since it can cause detachments at the ends.
- This happens most often with thin nails that look like “napkins.” They are soft, bend and peel off from the back of the coating. As a result of this, the material chips at the ends.

Reasons for damage to extended nails
All girls want to know why nail extensions peel off? There are several main reasons that prevent us from wearing long nails.
- Physiology. Most often, detachments occur due to increased humidity of the hands, hormonal imbalances and during various diseases.
- Poor quality materials are considered one of the reasons why artificial ends flake off. Make sure that when modeling you use products from well-known manufacturers. One low-quality component in the technology can ruin all efforts.
- Master's mistakes. The specialist must follow all modeling rules so that after the manicure session the client is satisfied with the result. To avoid material detachments, special attention should be paid to preparing for extensions.
- Incorrect choice of shape and length of artificial plates. Of course, you can extend the tips of any shape, but if you lead an active lifestyle, then it’s better to stick to classic shapes and moderate sizes of your nails. Everyday manicure should be practical, so there is no need to wear extreme length nails that can easily break. When considering which nail extension is better, practical or extravagant, first of all, take care of the convenience of artificial nails to wear.
Gel polish does not stick well: reasons
The length of gel polish wear affects how long it lasts. The longer the nails, the denser the strengthening layer should be present. On long nails, sometimes leveling and strengthening with a base does not work. The fact is that on long nails the center of gravity is shifted closer to the edge, so it is recommended to make a decent thickness in the apex area in order to build the correct architecture, thereby ensuring good durability of the coating. If these conditions are not met, the material begins to peel off at the growth points due to constant bending, since there is not enough material in this area. Nail cracks often form in the area of ingrowth points. In this case, it is necessary to carry out repairs or re-extension.
Gel polish does not stick well, reasons:
- Poor preparation
- Poor quality materials
- Thin nails
- Wet nail plate
- Doing dirty work without gloves
What's better for nail extensions?
Wondering whether nail extensions are harmful, many face serious difficulties when choosing a modeling material. You can extend the nail plate using gel or acrylic. Modeling with acrylic powder is gradually becoming a thing of the past for a number of reasons, which you can read about in the article about acrylic nail extensions. More and more girls are choosing gel or biogel. The latter is distinguished by the fact that it strengthens the natural plate, making it better not only in terms of aesthetics, but also in health. There is absolutely no harm from extending artificial nails with biogel.
The final video lesson will tell you whether nail extensions are harmful to your health. The video will help you find a good specialist who will perform the modeling technology according to all the rules. You will also find out whether it is harmful to use acrylic and gel, and why extended nails require special care. Enjoy watching, dear readers!
How to care for extended nails?
Extended nails do not require special care. Many women prefer to get extensions for this reason. Once you have increased/adjusted it, you walk for three weeks and don’t think about anything. The only thing I recommend to everyone is to use cuticle oil twice a day. In the morning and in the evening. Both for those who wear nails and for those who have their own. The oil nourishes the cuticle very well, it becomes flexible and moisturized, and then there is no need for trimmed manicure at all. The light massage you do by rubbing the oil has a beneficial effect on cell division and growth. The oil must be professional. Just olive oil or from a pharmacy is not suitable.
Which is better: acrylic or gel?
When asking this question, you can just as easily ask which is better, pork or beef. Just as pork and beef are meat, acrylic and gel are polymers. A polymer that is in different stages: acrylic is a polymer + monomer, and gel is an oligomer. I won’t bore you with long scientific explanations.
By asking this question, you apparently wanted to find out what exactly is best for you. So here it is. Both are chemical substances of the same group - polymers.
The client’s task is not to choose a good material; you are not buying raw materials, but a product. Your task is to find an excellent master, and how he does his wonderful work should be his headache, not yours. Regardless of what the Master works on, if he is a professional, he will not harm you. It is very important to know that it is not the material that spoils the nails, but the unfortunate master. The most important quality of the material, if you prefer cheap (Chinese) - then remember that this raw material is of low purity and causes allergies with prolonged contact. I prefer only American raw materials, at the moment I have been working with the Formula Pro brand for 5 years, I am satisfied with the high quality of this material and the comfortable price.
Is it harmful to grow your nails?
Why do many people think that extended nails are evil? Because, unfortunately, as in many other areas, in our business there are often illiterate “masters”. People who have no idea what nails are, without proper education and experience, are sometimes even self-taught, who simply saved on training, material, and so on. Violating all technologies, they file down their clients’ natural nails to the meat! During correction, they can freely tear off the nails they have extended. Such crooked “masters” often have clients walking around with peeling and torn nails. A torn nail is when the nail is not broken but completely torn from the natural nail. I'm talking now about how problematic and unpleasant this is. And how ugly!!! Of course, having been in the hands of such a sadist and having gone through the entire execution, few people will decide to re-build.
What are detachments?
If natural nails are not properly prepared before extensions, or if low-quality acrylics or gels are used, the material begins to come off from the cuticle side - these are detachments. It peels off down to the middle of the natural nails, and sometimes falls off completely. Dirt and moisture can get into the layers. This is very harmful to your nails; all sorts of bacteria can settle there, since the best thing is that it’s dark, warm and damp. If you see something like this on your hands, this is the first sign that you need to change the system, and possibly the master. In very rare cases, the material may be rejected by the client's body.
How often should you remove artificial nails to give your natural nails a chance to “breathe”?
I personally heard this question more often than others. Of course, only a person who has no idea how a nail works can ask about this. The fact is that nails are horny formations that have a lamellar structure. They are not able to breathe, evaporate moisture, nails do not require food and rest, only the matrix (the heart of the nail) is alive. It is located under the posterior nail fold and is supplied with oxygen through the blood supply. The nail plate itself, which we use in extensions, is a dead layer of keratin. You should remove your nails only when you decide that you no longer want to build them up for a long time. Taking off your nails for a month and then coming back to do them again is, in my opinion, crazy. Anyone who has already done nail extensions knows how the preparation process goes - we sand the top layer of the nail plate, very carefully, shallowly, but, nevertheless, we touch it! Then the nail is treated with dehydrant and primer. All this dries and degreases the nail plate so that the material adheres better. When we remove nails (even if by soaking), we file them, remove the material, and still end up with a soft buff, which also does not add thickness to your nails. And now, imagine, you remove the artificial coating, walk around for a month and come back to build it up again. During this time, your nails will grow by only 4 mm, let's cut them again? Excuse me, now you give me an argument as to why they were filmed?
Why do you need to make adjustments every three weeks?
Nail modeling is a whole science, it has a set of laws and rules. There is a place on the nails where, if hit, bruised, or simply caught with a nail, it will break. We call this zone the stress zone (ZZ). To prevent the nail from breaking, the nail is especially strengthened. This makes your nails wearable and less fragile. But, in addition to the fact that the nail should be wearable, it should also be aesthetically beautiful. Therefore, it is impossible to make all zones thick; the appearance will suffer greatly. Over the course of three weeks, the protective device moves from its place by 3 mm, and accordingly, the scrap protection disappears. Nails become much more fragile. Not to mention that fused nails are not aesthetically pleasing.
How can you break an extended nail, and is it strong?
Both acrylic and gel are quite hard materials. A not entirely successful comparison can be made with porcelain: the material is hard, but fragile. Of course, nails don't break into fragments. The softer your movements, the greater the likelihood of not breaking your nail. Extended nails, even though they are hard, cannot be used to tighten screws. Do not press hard buttons, elevator buttons, for example. You should not put your nails into the holes, there is a high probability of leaving them there. Nails cannot be cut with scissors!!! Most often, nails are broken when opening a car door. You just need to understand at what angle you put your palm into the door handle, and at that angle you need to pull it out. And the longer the nail, the more dangerous it is for injury. Long nail extensions sometimes break along with their nails, especially when stress builds up. Actually, long nails can be compared to high heels. It wouldn’t even occur to you to put on high heels and go for a run.
What to do with a broken nail?
If you break a nail, of course, it is best to come to a nail technician and have the break repaired. But if this is not possible, you can try gluing the nail together. Apply regular manicure glue (the strongest Formula Pro glue) to the ends of the broken nail, press them together and hold for 10 seconds. Sometimes this method allows you to calmly live until the correction. The same can be done if the nail is not broken, but a crack has formed in it, which is very annoying in everyday life. Press lightly on the edge of the nail, open the crack slightly and add a drop of glue. It is very important that your hands and nails are dry during this time.
How to choose nail length?
The length of your nails directly depends on your wearing experience and the lifestyle to which you are accustomed. Of course, if you are doing your nails for the first time, it is better to keep them short. You will walk around with your nails, they will grow, and the length will increase unnoticed by you. This way you will gradually get used to the length. If you have experience wearing long nails and have grown your own, then you can freely choose the average length. From my experience, I noticed that the more feminine a girl is, the smoother her movements, the easier she wears her nails. I have clients who, no matter the length, have never broken them. There are those who break when they start wearing them, then they get used to it and breaks rarely occur.
What to do with a broken nail?
If the edge breaks off, again you won’t be able to get to the master. It is unlikely that you can fix a nail yourself, but you can make it more comfortable. Very carefully file off the sharp edges. Just without fanaticism. It’s not like the master couldn’t correct it later and had to remove the nail and build it up again.
Can I print with stilettos?
You can do anything with stilettos. Just be careful.)))
How to wash dishes with extended nails?
All my clients who wear long nails hear this question. Most often they are asked by people who have never worn their nails that long. Those who have worn at least a medium-length square know for sure that with nails, in most cases, it is much more comfortable than without them. Do you know how to wash dishes with extended nails? Chorus))) And wash the dishes, and clean, and cook! If you do this without problems with natural nails, then you can do it without problems with extensions of any length.
What is biogel?
It is naive to believe that this gel is truly a biological substance. Of course this is a publicity stunt and a myth. Biogel is the same BIO as any other gel. It's still the same artificial polymer. True, its molecules are more flexible. They don't have the hardness of regular material. There is also no fragility, which is undoubtedly a big plus. It bends along with the natural nail and is very difficult to break. It is possible to model from it, but it does not make sense, since the work will not be as beautiful as from ordinary material. Due to the fact that the material is flexible, the biogel does not hold its shape when pressed. But strengthening your nails is just the perfect remedy! Gives excellent results, evens out the natural nail plate. It looks as if your nails are simply covered with colorless varnish. You can also draw a French coat, but, of course, it will require frequent corrections, due to the fact that the “smile” grows together.
Strengthening nails
Bio-coatings give very good results in strengthening nails; I highlight the “Royal French” series from “Formula Profi”. Since they are as flexible as a natural nail plate, they do not peel off or break. Great to cover your nails after removing nail extensions. They look great. The feeling is very comfortable. But don’t think that you have strengthened your own nails and your fragile, flaking natural ones will become naturally better. These problems will not occur only as long as the nails are covered with a bio-coating. When you remove the coating, of course, your nails will be in good condition for some time, but you will remain living in your city, in your ecology, you will also wash your hands in chlorine water, the structure of the nails will deteriorate again without coating. Regarding strengthening. Nails that have the correct shape should be strengthened with gel. Long nail plate, straight “smile” line. For example, you have excellent nails, but they are fragile, peeling, and you cannot grow them. But they do not need to be visually corrected. Just make it thicker. Then strengthening is the ideal remedy. If your nails are far from ideal, then they need to be corrected with modeling. Give them a long nail plate, an even “smile,” and align them so that all the fingers are in harmony. Just strengthening them with a simple gel will not turn them into graceful, beautiful nails.
Which is better: tips or forms?
Definitely shapes. There can be no good modeling on tips! They employ those who are too lazy to learn how to do nails on forms. Amateurs also love them very much. Tips will only highlight the shortcomings of the natural nail plate. With forms you can correct these shortcomings. But now is the 21st century, the century of new technologies. I myself switched to high-speed modeling with UPPER FORMS and LIQUID TIPS - these are simply wonderful technologies, be sure to master them. I just warn you right away, you need to undergo professional training. Come to us for training, you will not only receive professional knowledge, but you will also have all the secrets of long-lasting nail modeling.
How long does it take to get nails done?
Everything, of course, depends on the complexity of the work. Depending on what experience the master has. And a lot also depends on the client himself. It's nice when the client knows what he wants. When he knows the work of the master and trusts him. This saves a lot of time and joint effort. For regular work, be it modeling or correction, I spend 2 hours per client. I've had enough. But the less experience the master has, the more time it takes him.
What to do if you bite your nails?
Try extensions, maybe you won’t find the material as tasty...
How to prepare nails for extensions?
If you have dry, hard cuticles, then it is advisable to do a trimmed manicure no later than three days before extensions. Please do not cut your own nails. The master himself will remove what he considers necessary to remove.
We invite you to our seminars to enhance your professional growth.
I wish you successful work and more grateful clients!

What else affects how long a manicure lasts?
If gel polish lasts a week or even less, this may indicate:
- Poor condition of nails. On weak nails, the coating quickly loses its integrity. Before doing a manicure with gel polish, it is recommended to strengthen your nails.
- Heavy stress on the nails: contact with chemicals, for example, hair dye, without gloves, going to the bathhouse or sauna, prolonged exposure to the sun.
- Improper use, for example, filing nails with a file. You can worsen the condition of your manicure if you frequently pick at something with your nails or bite your nails.
