How long do you need before your next trip to the salon to see a manicurist?
It all depends, of course, on which one you prefer: standard classics with regular varnish, gel polish coating or acrylic extensions? There are many techniques today, and each allows you to wear a beautiful manicure for a long time. Much depends on how quickly your nails grow, because this is also an individual feature. And one more nuance is, of course, the design. Militta found out from leading manicurists which nail art ideas would be win-win for the longest wear - there are seven of them, and there are even more variations on the theme. And as an addition: a couple of useful life hacks on how to save an already grown manicure. Now you don’t have to run to the salon every 2 weeks: get inspired by our photos and save!
French on a transparent basis
It’s already a tradition for Militta: to start the list of the best manicure ideas with French.
Well, this is not at all surprising: the French jacket, both classic and super fashionable with different colors and decor, is an ideal option for any age, style and image. And yes, of course, French would be a great idea to carry around for as long as possible. Choose a transparent base - this way the overgrown nail will not be visible. If your nails have any imperfections in the form of spots or discoloration, you can use a translucent milky base - it won’t be too noticeable either. To “extend the life” of your French, you can cover your nails with clear varnish at home.
Pearl effect
On nails coated with clear varnish, you can use almost any technique that we use for colored coatings. Rubbing is no exception. It gives unusual shimmers that can be compared to pearls.
If you choose a transparent varnish with a pink or milky tint as a coating, you can apply a rub on top of it. The result will surprise you; in the light your nails will appear colored, and in the shade the varnish will again be transparent.
"Naked" manicure
No, this is not the nude with enamel coating (although “nude” also translates as “naked”).
These are completely transparent nails or covered with light translucent textures of varnish or gel polish. This nail design looks especially impressive on a short length, without a clearly overgrown light tip of the nail. It couldn't be simpler: coat your nails with a clear nail strengthener and you're done! If you want to use it on long nails, choose richer opaque textures, but choose them identical in color to your nail plate. A minimalist design in the form of geometric shapes, stripes, delicate and subtle patterns looks great on such nails.
With drawings
Drawings on a transparent background make the coating unique. Depict anything - abstraction, flowers, butterflies and other patterns.
Drawings in the form of flowers or fruits are perfect for summer manicure.
When choosing a pattern, do not forget about minimalism - simplicity is always in fashion.

Ombre and gradient
Want more brightness?
Are you tired of transparency, translucency and neutral nudes? Do ombre! Here, in any case, you can choose different colors, even the brightest or darkest shades. The best colors for the cold season 2020-2021 are considered to be classic blue, grassy green, scarlet and burgundy, chocolate and purple. Ask your artist to make you an ombre transition from the middle of the nail to the tip - the further, the brighter. The base of the nail at the cuticle can be left completely transparent, not forgetting to first coat the nail with a base. Or you can use a beautiful nude shade to match the color of the nail plate: cream, milky, beige or soft pink.
Side French

The best way to disguise an overgrown base of the nail is not to highlight it with color at all and shift the emphasis to the other side. In this case, a natural base and side french are the ideal solution. Even after a week, people around you will pay attention to the bright stripes on the side (especially if they are contrasting), and not to the root of the nail.
Lunar manicure and coating of half the nail plate
Everything here is the same as with the gradient. But ombre requires a special airbrush machine, or at least sufficient skills of the master so that he can make a similar design in some other way. But the lunar manicure, which has become a real classic, can be painted on your own without any problems. The idea is even simpler: coating from the center of the nail plate, when the base of the cuticle remains under a transparent base, and the tip is covered with color. Sort of French, only with a slightly thicker “smile”. And you don’t have to make it curved; you can stick a special sticker on your nail and simply cover the tip from the middle with the color you like.
Glitter and foil
Are you planning to make an appointment for a New Year's manicure, but your manicurist no longer has openings before the holidays? Get your manicure done in advance - you can even do it 2-3 weeks before the New Year. If you use glitter and sequins, or a foil design, you can safely wear this nail art for up to a month, or even longer. The secret, again, is to leave the base of the nail at the cuticle clear. It can also be nude, matching the color of your nail plate. Next, simply cover the rest of the nail to the tip with liquid gel glitter, dry glitter, sequins or rhinestones, or apply foil. Glitter, chic and beauty! And you can’t see how much the nail has grown.
Nude tones
With light beige shades, nails look natural and delicate. This universal nail art is suitable for an office dress code, an evening look, and everyday life.

Geometric minimalism
This is what we mentioned in the description of nude nail designs. In general, the main condition for “long-lasting” nail art is the presence of a transparent base on which you can paint anything. These can be floral motifs, animalistic design, and, of course, geometry that is incredibly relevant today. Graphic minimalism is what won the minds and hearts of designers at the fall-winter 2020-2021 shows, and not only in clothes and accessories, but also in manicure. It is enough to cover your nails with a nude coating or a transparent base, and draw on top several even stripes, parallel or intersecting, squares or triangles, dots or circles - and the perfect geometry is ready!
Useful life hacks if your manicure has already grown out
But what if you didn’t have time to do any of the listed options for a “long-lasting” manicure, and your nails have already grown a lot? And at the same time, there is no opportunity to visit a master in quarantine or even remove your nails yourself? Militta has selected several useful life hacks for you on how to “save” an already overgrown manicure.
- If the length is already such that the nails begin to bend in the opposite direction or even break, they definitely need to be filed. Choose a coarse file with high abrasiveness if you have acrylic or gel nails, or are covered with several dense layers of gel polish. For regular manicures and thin coatings, choose a finer abrasive.
- If the coating is still visually “withstanding criticism”, but is already peeling off from the base of the nail at the cuticle, cover it with several layers of transparent varnish. A thick layer of varnish will allow you to seal the peeling areas, make the entire nail glossy and extend the manicure for at least another week.
- If the last time you covered your nails with too bright and saturated color, and it is already very obvious that your nails have grown, you can use glitter. Take gold or silver nail polish or glitter and make a “reverse moon”. This nail art involves covering the nail right at the cuticle under the curve with a sparkling shine. Stylish and will last a long time!
- Another great option is to stick stones, one or even several, on the overgrown nail near the cuticle. Visually, this will create the effect as if it was intended this way, and you just visited the master. Dots, stripes (especially longitudinal ones) and other patterns that will definitely affect the area of the regrown nail also work.

A few weeks after the manicure, the shellac is still firmly and securely attached to the nails, but the grown part is sometimes very noticeable.
Good craftsmen can create a coating that can be worn for up to four weeks. To avoid having to make corrections twice as often, you can perform a manicure in advance that is not visible when the nail grows.
It is important to remember that this method does not imply that the coating can be worn for at least three months. The gel polish on an overgrown nail begins to overweight and put pressure on the free edge, which is why the nail plate can easily break, sometimes not without painful consequences. The optimal time to change the coating is three to four weeks after the manicure.
