Varieties
Chameleon gel polishes for nails today are presented in two main types: changing tone due to light refraction or due to temperature changes. Both options are very relevant today. At the same time, each girl decides for herself what kind of manicure she wants to see as a result. Some people are already so tired of gel polishes that react to temperature that they want something really new. Others don’t like coatings at all, the tone of which depends on the lighting. That is why there are two types of material.
Thermal polishes are chameleons
Thermo-varnish
Usually, thermo-shellac or thermo-varnish for nails changes its shade when the temperature increases by 30º. Moreover, when exposed to low temperatures, a dark tint always appears. It is thanks to this that you can get shades of two completely different spectra on your nails - both close (from blue to deep blue) and distant (from white to red or even black).
When choosing a shade, you should take into account both the compatibility of the shades (how good it will look on the nails) and the conditions accompanying the manicure. For example, it is inappropriate to wear a black manicure in the workplace. And it may look exactly like this until your hands warm up.
The price for chameleon thermovarnish may differ slightly, and be slightly higher, for some brands. However, the increasing spread of such technology is leading to equalization of prices.
What to choose
Chameleon gel polishes are selected purely individually. So, for example, it all depends on what specific goal is being pursued. Some girls need to have a manicure that will always look unusual and interesting. In this case, it is better to choose the type of gel polishes that changes color when the lighting changes. This way, even with the slightest movement of your hands, the manicure will always look new. And for those who, for some reason, are constantly forced to be either cold or warm, you can try thermal material. The manicure will also look unusual and interesting.
Usage
The thermo chameleon nail polish, which reacts to temperature, looks best on long nails. Since the nail plate will automatically warm up with body heat, and the protruding part of the nail will be more sensitive to temperature changes, an interesting French effect will be created with a rather blurred color transition. Creating such a manicure in a salon without using thermovarnish is a long and painstaking job, requiring several shades of varnish. Color transitions will constantly delight and surprise you, without much time or expense.
Color transition
In addition to such an original French manicure, you can create a beautiful gradient manicure. However, the execution technique is quite complex for home execution; with such a request it is better to contact a good specialist or look for a new product - chameleon varnish in three shades.
In order for your manicure to last for a long time, we advise you to use shellac with a thermal effect. It allows you to create the same amazingly beautiful manicure that will last for several weeks.
Another interesting option for working with thermovarnish is to alternately apply regular varnish and “chameleon” varnish. If you manage to choose the closest possible shades, the result will be a very interesting manicure, which will be, for example, red-black outdoors, and red indoors.
How to apply
The most basic problem that a girl may encounter when performing a manicure with gel polish (with any effect) on her own is applying the material to her “working” hand. Therefore, right-handed people are recommended to start performing the procedure with their right hand. First, gel polish is applied to it, and then to the left one. In this case, you have a better chance of getting an even and neat manicure. But in order to make a truly high-quality design, you must adhere to certain rules.
note
Patterns can be made with a single-color varnish over the chameleon coating, or a chameleon varnish pattern can be applied to a single-color coating.
Both options look amazing. Popular manufacturers:
- MASTER PROFESSIONAL. The “Chameleon” gel polish of this company is presented in all palettes based on black color, that is, you first need to apply the base black color, and then apply gel polish with a chameleon effect on it.
- CANNI. High-quality and proven Canni Chameleon Gel Polish is quite easy to apply, does not flow, and has excellent density. Easily removed with almost any liquid.
- My Nail. Chameleon gel polish from this company allows you to create a glossy and smooth finish that lasts for about 3 weeks.
- Kodi Professional. A wide palette of shades of Cody's chameleon gel polishes allows you to safely experiment with the color of your manicure.

Preparation
It is believed that nails do not need to be treated before applying gel polish. Actually this is not true. In order for chameleon gel polishes to last as long as possible without chipping or cracking, you need to treat your nails in advance. Preparation takes place in two stages. First you need to carefully file the free edge to the desired shape and length, remove or push back the cuticle, and degrease the nail plate. After this, it is imperative to apply a primer. This is a special product that dries in air and provides the best adhesion of the artificial material to the nail. After this, touching the nail plates with your hands is strictly prohibited.
Color layer
Naturally, you first need to choose the desired tone. This can be any chameleon gel polish of a suitable color. How to apply it correctly? First, the brush is carefully pressed against the edge of the bottle, as when using regular varnish. The colored layer is applied as thinly as possible so that it dries well, without bubbles. As a rule, 60-90 seconds of drying in a UV lamp is enough. If necessary, the procedure is repeated several times until the desired shade is achieved. Each layer is thoroughly dried.
Consolidation
When all layers of colored gel polish have been applied, they must be secured with a top coat. It is also, as a rule, odorless and colorless, like the base (base). In gel polish technology, a top coat without a sticky layer is most often used, so after drying, you can immediately apply the oil to the cuticle. The fixative dries in a UV lamp for about 60 seconds.
Thermal varnish application technique
The principle of applying this varnish or gel polish is not too different from the usual one - before working on your nails, you need to give them a well-groomed look, trim the cuticles and side ridges. It is advisable that the tips of the nails have the same length - this way the change of colors will look as impressive as possible.
Before applying a thermovarnish that has fairly bright pigments, it is necessary to protect your nails with a base varnish. Otherwise, the nails will turn yellow, and such yellowness can only be removed by deep sanding the nail plate.
The consistency of high-quality chameleon varnish is quite thick. Moreover, this varnish dries faster than regular varnish. Therefore, for a deep color, two layers will be enough, which must be applied quickly but carefully. Thanks to its consistency, this varnish covers the surface of the nail with an even layer and lasts quite a long time.
If you want a manicure in which the edge of the nail will have a radical difference in tone from the base, we advise you to apply an additional third layer of varnish to the free part. After all layers of applied varnish or gel polish have dried, you can use a fixative - this will add shine to the colors.
Reviews and opinions
In general, despite the abundance of brands and manufacturing companies, some of which turn out to be very good, while others are “average”, girls have a positive opinion about “chameleon” gel polishes. Many people believe that this is an original and stylish way to decorate their nails for a long time. Gel polish “chameleon”, reviews of which some have probably already heard from girlfriends or acquaintances, deserves attention. Thus, thermo-gel polishes that change color depending on the temperature are in particular demand. Some people don’t quite like the fact that the shade does not always change evenly on all nails. For example, one has already become darker or lighter, while the other is just beginning its color game. In general, chameleon gel polish, photos of which are abundant in the article, is a really interesting option for manicure. In addition, no one forbids supplementing it with decorative elements: rhinestones, bouillons, photo design and so on.
Gel varnishes that change color (thermo varnishes, chameleons). Expectations and reality)
A review of 12 different gel polishes that will clearly not let the woman who dares to paint her nails get bored) Only the lazy people don’t know about gel polishes these days) But it is for these lazy ones that I will repeat a part of one of my past reviews.
Gel polishes (which include Shellac, Gelish, and many, many other brands and companies) are durable and durable substitutes for ordinary acetone nail polishes. They are applied to the nail like regular varnishes, but require preliminary preparation of the nail plate, the use of a base and top coat, as well as UV rays. Yes, such varnishes dry only in UV lamps, do not harden in air and can stay on the nails for up to 5-6 weeks. However, in order for the manicure to look fresh and neat, the varnish coating needs to be changed every 2 weeks. This polish cannot simply be wiped off the nails, but it can be soaked in acetone or filed off.
Tram-pum-pam, end of educational program, let's start the review)))
By spring, I decided to update the base of my materials (I am a manicurist) and ordered “chameleons”, which are super fashionable this season. 12 pieces for less than 70 dollars - compared to prices in domestic stores, this is not a waste, but ridiculous pennies, consider it a gift))) Chameleon varnish (aka thermo-varnish) is a substance that contains components that are sensitive to changes temperatures Its color changes depending on the ambient temperature and the temperature of the hands.
This is the effect that the Internet and sellers of this product promise us (almost everyone has such varnishes, it makes no sense)
Agree, beauty! A soft transition of color, absolutely logical, because the nail plate is warm, and the free, regrown edge of the nail is ordinary (considered cold). However, not everything is so simple))) First things first!
This is what an “army” looks like. Lot - 12 pieces, you can order 10 colored varnishes + base coat + top coat, or you can order 12 color varnishes if the base and top coat are already in stock
Gel polishes are VERY, VERY thick, it’s a pleasure to paint your nails with them, although it won’t work too thin, especially if you remember about the obligatory layers of base and top coat)))
This is what all the colors of thermo-gel polishes I have look like in a “cold” state
We take a container of hot water and check what the colors will turn into as it warms up.
“Transformation” time – one and a half to two seconds
I would like to note right away that number 32 (lilac) takes much longer to change than the others, so I didn’t wait for the complete change to take a photo)
It would seem cool, a constantly different manicure, you won’t get tired of it) However, what do we have in practice and is it as beautiful as the advertising pictures promise? Let's look at a “living”, “human” manicure using the example of thermal varnish No. 41. It is crimson-red when cold and transparent golden when warm)
Ordinary warm hands, at room temperature
Dip your fingers into cold water...
Wow, new color!
And then the fun begins... What do nails look like in the “intermediate” stage? Let's say when you come from the street and your hands begin to slowly but surely warm up?
And like this)))))))
If your hands begin to freeze a little, for example, when hanging laundry on the balcony, then your nails also begin to “freeze” from the end of the finger
Of course, this is not at all the effect that the manufacturers of thermo-varnish promise us))) I can’t say that such a manicure is beautiful; your hands will look too specific most of the time. The quality of application of the varnishes is excellent, they do not stink, an excellent example of a product that is a pleasure to work with. However, the appearance of the nails painted with them is not for everyone)))
Well, where would we be without Peach))) Assistant, hello)))
What to choose?
When choosing from existing types of “chameleons”, you should focus only on your preferences. So, some people like it when the manicure plays in the light, changing and shimmering in the rays of the sun or lamp. Others enjoy watching the color change when the temperature changes: warm - one tone, cold - another. Everyone has their own preferences, and there simply cannot be universal advice in choosing the type of gel polish. Try, dare, experiment! Creative manicure is always in fashion, and “chameleon” is generally at the peak of popularity this season.
How does everything really happen?
Despite the loud statements of manufacturers who produce gel polish that changes its palette, it is not very good to wear. This is due to the fact that when using it, you cannot make a final layer, that is, use a top coat. It is known that the top helps to fix the polish and preserve the manicure for quite a long time. When wearing an unprotected coating, cracks and chips form after the first week. This manicure will not last long; it will have to be removed after a maximum of 14 days.
How does the varnish behave when worn? Since the coating is called thermal or chameleon, it changes color when exposed to heat. You can see from the photo that the transition should be smooth, all nails should be the same. However, after the coating has been applied, it is worth conducting a test.
To do this, put your hand in warm water and see how the varnish changes the image. During the test, it will be discovered that the change in shade occurs rather slowly and unevenly; after about 1-2 seconds of heat exposure, 1-2 nails undergo transformation, then the rest join. Why does gel polish change color when worn in spots? Most likely, this is due to the conduction of heat from the hands, it is uneven. Moreover, the coating may be thicker or thinner, because nails are different. The result is not a very beautiful picture, as you can see from the photo.
Is it possible to improve the appearance of a manicure?
When wearing thermovarnish, the manicure will be quite specific. It’s not even called a chameleon anymore, but something like a gradient, but unique. Sometimes temperature changes simply do not affect the change in shade. Why is this happening? Most likely due to the quality.
So, why it’s worth it and why you shouldn’t choose this varnish:
- looks interesting, but not for everyone;
- it's called a chameleon, but it doesn't change much;
- doesn't last long.
However, all this does not mean that this polish is not worth trying! It is worth purchasing a polish called chameleon or thermo and creating an original nail design.
