Trimmed classic manicure - how to do it correctly

Classic manicure is widely known and is one of the first types of manicure to emerge, which does not prevent it from remaining popular and frequently used. It is called trimming because of the method of processing the cuticle (the rim of leather that frames the nail plate) using special tweezers. The third name - wet manicure - it received due to the use of special water baths during the treatment process.

Flaws

However, classic manicure at home and not only has a number of disadvantages .

  1. Due to the use of cutting forceps during the procedure, there is a risk of skin damage,
  2. The first, in turn, can lead to the appearance of hangnails and cracks, and, accordingly, to the unesthetic appearance of your nails.
  3. In addition, cuts can lead to infection.

If a wound does appear, it is recommended to immediately disinfect it with hydrogen peroxide or another antiseptic available in the medicine cabinet. And if you know that you have sensitive cuticles, then you should get by with only superficial treatment or even abandon this type of manicure.

After performing a classic manicure, you can perform any type of nail coating: polish, gel polish or gel. The main thing is that during the manicure there are no serious injuries that would prevent further application of the coating.

Tools

Not everyone goes to manicure courses. There are many tutorials that will show you the process for free. But all people are different, everyone’s skin and cuticles are different. The classic manicure method, which is taught in famous schools, will tell you about all the problems and highlight all the technology. Does the free video take into account your nuances?

Let's look at some tips from the master on how to cut a manicure correctly. First you should prepare the necessary tools. These are cuticle scissors or tweezers for the same purpose. They should be sharp enough not to crush the skin, not to tear it into pieces, but to cut it.

The test can be done on a regular paper napkin: once the cut is made, it should not leave any layers of napkin behind the blades. If there is no clean cut with smooth edges, it’s time to sharpen the tool.

A few words of consolation to girls who received an expensive manicure set - all the tweezers costing five thousand were made carelessly. So you might like it too - it means the tool is of high quality.

The required files must have a grain designation (this is the amount of abrasive in one square centimeter). For natural nails, this indicator should only be 180 grit, no more. You can use less: up to 240 grit, but it will take a long time to cut.

The exception is glass files, but it is best to buy them in professional stores. Cheap files quickly lose their properties and begin to wrinkle your nails.

A skin ax (cuticle pusher) and a scraper (hatchet) are often combined in one tool, which is very convenient. They have metal cutting edges that must also be sharp.

Classic manicure with varnish

Here you can see some photos of a classic manicure with varnish using an example of my work:

Fashion trends 2022

Nowadays, the fashion for the length and color of nails represents complete freedom for creativity. Classic manicure for 2022 requires the use of calm, discreet colors, suitable for both everyday life and special occasions.

The trending shape of nails is square-rounded, oval, almond-shaped, visually lengthening short nails.

For an oval shape, you can always choose original decor and design, thanks to which your nails will look aesthetically pleasing and elegant.

Classic manicure with gel polish

The classic cut manicure has been and remains my favorite cuticle remover for the past 10 years. Only some tools and means for its implementation change. Well, after a classic manicure, I like to apply a beautiful gel polish coating. Here are some photos of the work:

Others can be viewed in the “Nail design with gel polish” section, where for each manicure there is a step-by-step photo or video lesson.

Why is it necessary to apply a base?

It is applied only for three-phase gels, because in single-phase gels the base, like the top, is already present in the composition.

The base layer performs several important functions:

  • strengthens the adhesion of gel polish to the surface of a natural or artificial nail;
  • protects the nail from absorption of pigment elements included in the gel polish;
  • smoothes the surface of the nail, eliminates depressions and grooves;
  • compact the plate and reduce the risk of chipping on the base material.

Classic manicure: how to do it

To perform a trim manicure at home you will need:

  • nail file
  • spatula or pusher,
  • nail clippers or scissors,
  • cuticle softener (optional),
  • Cuticle oil.

It is recommended to have the following additional products: lint-free wipes, hand and tool disinfectant, nail polish remover.

Let's look at how to perform a classic edged manicure at home.

  1. We disinfect our hands with a special product or simply wash them well with soap.
  2. If there is old varnish left, remove its remnants using liquid.
  3. We give the desired shape to the nails using a nail file. It should be noted that you should not file your nails when they are wet. This can lead to their delamination. Preference should be given to nail files with a rubber or cardboard base. For strong nails, sand or porcelain-type tools are recommended. For others, it is better to use fine-grained semicircular files, which will polish the nail and preserve its structure.

  4. Further steps may differ depending on whether you soak your nails in a bath or use a special product to soften the cuticles.
In the first case, soak your hands in a bath of warm water. Sometimes it is useful to make a special solution instead of water, preferably from sea salt, although its components may be more exotic. At home, just add a little liquid soap to the water. The soaking procedure lasts about 5 minutes.
  5. If you have chosen a cuticle remover, then apply it and wait for the time specified in the instructions.

  6. After this, we move the softened cuticle to the base of the nail using a spatula so that it is more convenient to grab it with tweezers. We carefully clean the pterygium from under the pulled back cuticle. This is convenient to do with the back of the spatula.

  7. We remove the cuticle with manicure scissors or tweezers (as appropriate) in a continuous cut to avoid the appearance of torn edges (you can read more about manicure tweezers in this article).

  8. To ensure that there are no burrs after a manicure, it is advisable to polish it with nail scissors.
  9. When finished, rub in cuticle oil with light massaging movements.

Additionally, the help of a polisher can polish the nail surface and give a healthy shine to your nails.

Now your nails look well-groomed and healthy.

Well, then you are free to either leave your nails as is, or apply a colored coating with varnish or gel polish.

By following all 8 steps described above in sequence, you will receive a flawless classic manicure that will not leave indifferent both your girlfriends and all the guys around you :-). Additionally, I offer for viewing a short video filmed about the process of performing a trim manicure at home.

Frequent mistakes and useful tips from experts

In step-by-step instructions and video lessons for beginners with training, manicurists share their experience and give advice to beginners on how to do a trim manicure beautifully and competently. In the absence of experience, beginners make mistakes that prevent them from getting a good result. The biggest mistake is filing the nails incorrectly. We move the file in one direction, lightly touching the surface.

When the file moves left and right, the horny structure is disrupted, looseness, cracks, and chips appear. You cannot do the procedure immediately after a shower or bath. Nails are softened and prone to brittleness. We adjust the length of the nails with scissors, not a file. We remove the cuticle with a sharp tool, without cutting it to the very root of the nail. We do not apply varnish to sick, damaged nails.

Before decorating your hands with manicure, visit your doctor and solve the problem. We do not skimp on the base coat and high-quality varnish; we use vitamin oil products and nourishing cosmetics. When removing varnish, use solutions without acetone.

Classic or hardware manicure: which is better?

It is worth noting that trimmed manicure as a salon service or a service provided by manicurists who perform work at home is already outdated. Professional masters have long switched to hardware or combined manicures, which are performed much cleaner, faster and safer.

However, it is still popular as a home type of manicure, since to perform a hardware manicure you will need to purchase a fairly expensive machine (device), which for individual use will be expensive and not at all profitable.

Therefore, what is better - a classic or hardware manicure , here is determined rather by the budget and how you are going to work: only for yourself or for the flow of clients.
