Velvet manicure: master class, popular photo ideas and tips

It’s difficult to surprise modern fashionistas with something unusual and extravagant. It would seem that all manicure techniques have been tried many times and it is difficult to come up with something completely new in the nail industry. However, the British company Ciate, which is considered the creator of the popular caviar manicure that is in demand by many girls, coped with this task.

In addition to this know-how, the company’s beauty specialists presented a set for suede manicure. It includes decorative varnish of various shades, a brush and a small container with fine pile or otherwise flock. Thanks to this new product, many fashionistas have the opportunity to independently create a spectacular velvet manicure on their nails.

A velvet manicure kit is easy to find in almost any manicure store. You can choose the length and origin of the fibers yourself. The most commonly used components are wool, viscose and cotton. Nails decorated with velvet manicure look very delicate and homely soft. Many people compare this design to the fur of a teddy bear.

Decorative sand and powder are considered a type of velvet coating. On nails they look more rigid and textured, creating a complex suede effect.

Velvet Design Set

When faced with flock for the first time, many girls have a lot of questions about working with it. Which material is better, how to apply it, how long will the manicure last? Before answering these questions, we suggest you find out what accessories are needed to achieve the velvet effect at home.

  • Flock - in the initial stages, give preference to small pile. It is easier to apply to nails and looks much neater than large ones. You can get a velor effect using scrapbooking powder, which can be found in specialized hand-made stores. It is even finer than flock and looks no less attractive and neat on nails.

  • Decorative varnish is the basis of your manicure, to which the fibers will be attached. As for the shade, you can choose a transparent base or choose a color similar to flock.
  • Brush – the size and hairiness of this tool are not important. You can choose a regular flat brush or use a manicure fan.

In beauty salons, a flocider is used to create a velor design. This portable device creates an electric field that affects the polarity of particles. Under the influence of such a device, the villi adhere more tightly to the surface of the nail and last much longer than “homemade” designs.

Fur nails, insect manicure and other strange nail designs

Crystal manicure

Last fall, makeup artists created a similar crystallized effect on the lips. On nails it looks no less impressive and resembles real amethysts, quartz and lapis lazuli.

Manicure with marijuana

Sounds crazy (and illegal), right? But this service is actually offered to its clients by a nail artist from California, Louisiana Fam. Those wishing to create such a plant-based reggae manicure on their nails must bring pieces of grass and documents confirming the legality of the use of the narcotic plant (the use of marijuana in California is legal, but only for medical purposes).

And the rest is simple: the master places pieces of grass on each nail, and then covers them with transparent gel polish for fixation.

Manicure with succulents

It turns out that succulents, which are now in trend, are useful not only for long-lasting compositions in florariums (semi-closed glass containers), but also for manicures.

This trend started thanks to Rose Borg from Australia. Her gaze wandered around the room and suddenly stopped at the most unpretentious indoor plants. This is how 3D manicure made from living succulents appeared.

Manicure with seashells

Ariel herself would envy such nails! But you can only be comfortable with a “shell” manicure under water. In real life, seashells will cling to everything, so the manicure will not last long.

Manicure with a snow globe

You can find even more New Year's nail designs using the hashtag #snowglobenails on Instagram. Of course, there is no need to talk about the practicality of this manicure, but we assure you that the “boomerangs” will collect hundreds of likes.

Fluffy manicure

The author of this creative idea was the creator of the CND gel polish brand, Jan Arnold, who presented her unusual vision of manicure at the Libertine show. The nail artist first coated the models' nails with nude Vinylux Weekly Polish and then added brown and white faux fur.

In cold weather, such a manicure will not warm you up, but as an idea for Halloween, it’s just right.

Bubble manicure

Only two questions arise when looking at bubble nails - why and how? We can’t answer the first one, but the second one is easy.

An acrylic ball is used for the base, which then takes the shape of a dome. But chopping an onion or inserting contact lenses with such nails is a whole quest.

Vampire manicure

Pointed nails (more like claws) were at the peak of popularity in the 1990s. But the coating that imitates blood is something new.

Manicure with real scorpions

This crazy idea originated in the city of Durango, which is called the Scorpio capital of the USA. Small real poisonous scorpions are coated with varnish and decorated with nails. Our craftsmen from the Russian network of Nail Sunny salons perform a similar trick with mosquitoes and ants... We would like to believe that not a single insect was harmed, but we are not sure...

Nails in the shape of... cutlery

Manicure with animal bones

Number one on our impromptu list of the weirdest nail designs is nails decorated with animal bones. The manicurist at Finger Bang in Portland uses real mouse and other rodent skeletons to create his creations. It's scary to imagine where she gets animal bones. Animal rights activists would definitely not be delighted with such a harsh manicure!

How to do a velvet manicure

As a rule, fashionistas have no questions about creating a sand manicure, which is considered a type of velvet. All you need for this design is to cover your nails with regular or gel polish and generously sprinkle the still wet base with decorative sand.

With flock it is a little more difficult; it is necessary to achieve a tight fit of the villi to the nail plate without the formation of elements sticking out or protruding beyond the nail. We offer you step-by-step instructions for creating a velvet manicure with flock, following which you can make your own design at home.

Any manicure begins with nail preparation. They are given a well-groomed appearance, their shape is corrected, and the cuticle is removed. Remember that velvet design looks great only on well-groomed and beautiful hands. Upon completion of hygiene procedures, apply transparent varnish to the surface of the nail plate.

Apply colored polish to your nails. If its consistency is quite liquid, you can repeat the procedure twice. The shade of varnish is chosen to match the flock. When using a clear base, you should be prepared for the fact that you will need a little more fiber to completely cover the nail plate.

Sprinkle a small amount of flock onto paper or other convenient surface. Cover one nail with polish or clear base and place your finger on the bristles. Make rolling movements so that the particles fall on the entire surface of the nail plate, and do not forget about the tip of the nail, which should also be covered with flock. Brush off excess with a dry brush. Repeat the procedure on all other fingers one by one.

Just 3 simple steps and your velvet manicure is ready. Do not cover the finished result with a top coat of varnish. The design will instantly lose its attractive appearance, the surface will darken, become lumpy and ugly.

Matte French

A very original and interesting solution would be to choose a matte French coat. It is performed in the same way as before, but the lack of standard shine makes it slightly different from the desired look.

A matte French manicure will look good on different nail lengths, even without the usual glossy shine. On the contrary, the matte texture gives the jacket even more elegance, which makes it possible to choose this look even for a wedding.

Velvet manicure 2022: current ideas for every day

Nails completely covered with villi are just one option for creating a suede or velvet manicure. Fashionistas create real masterpieces, especially relevant for the winter season. Unfortunately, such a design does not last long on nails - a maximum of 3 days.

Contrary to popular belief, velvet manicure can be wetted. Of course, when wet, the villi will darken, but after drying they will return to their original state. Despite these difficulties, suede designs are very popular among girls. We offer you photo ideas for velvet design that you can repeat on your nails or use as a basis for your own unique nail art.

Appearance

Of course, there are no comrades in taste and color, but this manicure looks, frankly, a little strange. This is no longer the neat “plush” trend of last year, and far from the usual glossy and/or matte. But it actually gives room to the imagination: with the help of fur you can adjust the shape of your nails, for example (the most suitable option is sharp claws, it looks especially impressive), and in general stand out (it’s very difficult to remain unnoticed with such “bunches”).

Only the bravest fashionistas can take the risk of getting a fur manicure today, but who knows, maybe in a couple of months it won’t be a curiosity at all?

Fuzzy Nail Sweaters - translated into Russian means Shaggy Sweater on nails. Popularly, this manicure is also called fur or velor. This name was obtained due to the structure of a special coating that is applied to the nail plate and is called Flocking powder.

Velvet nail art is used only for nail design in winter. It's easy to make an impression with this manicure, but unfortunately, it's not practical at all. Its founder is the British manufacturer Ciate. A special set of professional preparations and products was developed to create interesting nail art with 3D coating on the nail plates.

Velvet sand manicure 2022

The process of applying decorative sand is no different from using flock. Due to its fine texture, sand is often used to create “knitted” patterns on nails in delicate pink or blue shades.

More recently, designers have offered girls a more practical option - varnish, which, after drying, creates a sandy effect. This new product makes it much easier to create a velvet design.

Experienced nail experts recommend applying two layers of polish for greater effect. This creates a durable textured coating with a beautiful velor effect that lasts much longer than a fleecy design.

Peculiarities

It has become fashionable to decorate nails with soft sand and a matte top. The result is a gorgeous plush surface. Sand manicure looks luxurious and original. It is created using a special powder called “velvet sand”.

There are several types of flock. It can give your nails the look of velor, corduroy, cashmere, satin or suede. After final processing, a matte finish may be obtained. The color of the sand depends on the base gel, when mixed with which the powder acquires its color. Interaction with varnish does not affect the texture of sand.

Sand manicure is great for natural and artificial nails. Any type of varnish is suitable. A plush manicure looks voluminous even without applying a top coat. Any design created using gel can be decorated with velvet or acrylic powder.

A manicure with a sand effect looks modern, elegant and stylish.

Velvet manicure with gel polish

To extend the life of a velvet manicure at least a little, nail technicians use gel polish. This design can be done at home if you have a UV or LED lamp.

The process of obtaining a velor (velvet) effect with gel polish:

  • Apply colored gel polish in two layers and dry it in a lamp
  • cover your nails with two layers of fixative, dry them in an LED or UV lamp
  • after that, sprinkle flock or velvet powder on the nails and dry in a lamp
  • remove excess fluff (sand) with a dry brush

Velvet manicure looks gorgeous and elegant in almost any color and design options. But this design is not without its drawbacks - it does not last long, gets wet and loses its appearance for a short time, and cannot be coated with a fixative.

Velvet (velor, cashmere, corduroy) manicure is an indispensable option for one evening. For example, the delicate and soft texture of dark-colored fibers will fit perfectly into an evening look, while bright and rich flock with rhinestones will be a wonderful addition to an outfit for a friendly party. But if you have enough time and desire, you can delight yourself with velvet design every day.

What is flock for nails

Flock is small fibers made of wool, cotton or viscose, 0.5-1 mm long, which are sorted into jars from 2 to 20 g. The shorter the flock, the neater it looks in manicure design, and the better it attaches and lasts longer in the design. .

What is flock for nail manicure

You can also find the names powder pollen, velvet powder or lint powder - this is all the same flock, lint in fine cuts. In addition to manicure design, it is used in scrapbooking, making postcards, pictures, crafts, and artificial flowers.

For manicure design, you can buy flock of any colors. A distinctive feature is that it needs to be matched to the same color of the varnish, so that the bald spots that appear after some time on the surface of the fluffy manicure are not visible.

Judging by the reviews, a design with flock lasts from 3 to 10 days, and then it will have to be adjusted or replaced with a new one.
