Nail polish OPI (OPI), color palette and tips

It is difficult to find a young lady who does not know what manicure varnish is. One of the brightest and most famous brands currently is OPI. Now she is quite an interesting representative in the world of the cosmetics industry. It is known that the company once had to be even an unprofitable production, which almost went bankrupt. However, now they occupy a leading position in the market, and the brand itself is known on almost all continents.

The company's advantages are that it not only produces products for the nail art industry, but also has a wide line of cosmetic products and hand care materials. Of course, the main highlight of the company remains nail polish. It is necessary to consider how the products of this brand differ, as well as what coatings currently exist. Moreover, not so long ago a rather interesting video was released, where many questions regarding this brand were discussed.

OPI palette

This fall season invites fashionistas to pay attention to several trendy shades that can be used in both clothing and manicure.

Use for manicure:

  • brown;
  • fuchsia;
  • blue and blue-gray;
  • yellow;
  • green;

  • Navy blue.

These colors are reflected in the OPI varnish palette. In autumn nail design, use the following shades:

  • "I Love You Just Be-Cusco", "A Little Guilt Under the Kilt", "Como Se Llama?";

  • "I'm Sooo Swamped!", "Envy the Adventure", "Stay Off the Lawn!";

Opi main collections

To make it easier to navigate among the huge number of colors and shades, the entire palette of Opi gel polishes is divided into lines, each of which has its own characteristics:

  1. Gelcolor is characterized by high strengthening qualities of the nail plate. For those with thin and brittle nails, the products in this series have become a lifesaver.
  2. The Classic collection is the most popular. The line includes not only basic colors, but also many interesting shades. All gels have a glossy effect and self-level on the nail plate. The photo shows the nails after applying the classic red coating.
  3. Nail Lacquer gel polishes are filled with shimmers and glitters. Examples of shades are shown in the photo.
  4. Ford Mustang was released jointly with the car manufacturer Ford. The colors in this series are rich and have “car” shade names. But finding such gel polishes is very difficult, since the release was limited.

Different shades of gel polish

Opie's palette is so rich that every girl will undoubtedly be able to find a suitable shade for herself both for everyday wear and for an evening out.

For long nails

Such a rich red color on long nails looks appropriate and laconic. If red alone is not enough, add an accent in the form of a design to one of the nails. Pictured is Opi, shade Coca-Cola® Red.

The yellowish-orange color on both hands looks too bright, but in combination with this design it looks stylish and original. Create the drawings with a thin brush, and for the background use Opi -Sun, Sea, and Sand in My Pants.

If the main color is not too bright, it is almost impossible to overload it. For example, dark green, which goes with patterns and matte accents. Opie has several similar colors. One of them is Stay Off the Lawn.

A subtle manicure with a whimsical cactus design using “Be There in a Prosecco” by Opi. If you don’t have the skills, stickers will help you create a drawing.

Gel polish from Opi - Sun, Sea, and Sand in My Pants, but in a matte finish.

Fashionable manicure in green with an accent on one nail using sparkles. As the main background, use your favorite tone from the Opi palette, for example, Envy the Adventure.

Monochromatic autumn manicure using several shades at once. You can choose other colors - this will only make the design more interesting. This design does not require additional elements and looks sophisticated.

Nude nails combined with matte green are a double color trend. By the way, Opie also offers a top with a matte effect.

Review of the polish collection, part 2 - OPI

Hello girls! Today I would like to continue the story about my collection of polishes, and my choice fell on the OPI brand.

OPI is perhaps the most famous manufacturer of professional nail polishes in the world, has a huge palette of polishes for every taste, and constantly releases seasonal collections. Each bottle of OPI polish is equipped with an extremely convenient flat wide brush with a straight cut, which is flattened into an even semicircle and allows you to paint over a medium-sized nail in just one stroke. Volume - 15 ml, each bottle has two metal balls, an individual number is printed on the outside in two places - on the bottle itself (engraving) and on the label at the bottom (stamp). I don’t have a lot of polishes from this brand, but this is more likely due to the paucity of the assortment available offline in my city and its rare updates. Today I’ll tell you about 17 OPI polishes.

1. OPI Nail Laquer NL H19 Passion
Photo in a bottle Detailed opinion:
Passion is a polish from the permanent collection. This is a milky pink jelly with peach undertones. In one layer the varnish is absolutely transparent, in two it is a little thicker, in three it completely covers the yellowness of my nails, leaving a visible smile line. I showed all three stages in the photo, as some will like a more transparent option. It is necessary to apply the second and subsequent layers quickly and deftly, otherwise the brush will pull the first layer along with it and bald spots will form. The first layer dries instantly, but a cake with three layers will have to dry longer; I’m glad that bubbles do not form. The gloss is excellent and does not require a top coat. Of course, it can be removed without any problems.

2. OPI Nail Laquer NL G16 Don't Pretzel My Buttons
Photo in the bottle Detailed opinion:
This polish is from the German collection, released in the fall of 2012.
This is a beige nude with a lilac undertone. This color won't suit every skin tone, but I really like it on my hands. The texture is a thick, opaque cream; if desired, it can be applied in one layer. In the photo you can see small sagging, in defense of the varnish I would like to say that it has thickened a little, since I already have less than half a bottle left, and before that it behaved perfectly. I already bought a double. The polish dries very quickly, if you apply one layer, it is perfect for an express manicure. Can be removed without problems. 3. OPI Nail Laquer NL C14 You're So Vain-illa
Photo in a bottle Detailed opinion:
The varnish is from the Coca-Cola collection released in the summer of 2014, which included 9 varnishes dedicated to various drinks. You're So Vain-illa symbolizes vanilla Coca-Cola and is another nude, this time with a dash of yellow and grey. I'm absolutely delighted with this shade! In terms of performance characteristics, it is similar to the previous varnish - it is easy to apply and remove, and dries quickly. A fly in the ointment - I received a defective brush with unevenly cut bristles, but I, in principle, got used to it. This is the only case of defects among all my brand varnishes. 4. OPI Nail Laquer NL T26 French Quarter For Your Thoughts
Photo in bottle

Long opinion:
This polish is from the 2011 Touring America fall collection. This is a gray cream with a faint brown undertone. It may seem like just a grey, but when you put it next to blueish and neutral greys, it's immediately obvious that it's a warm shade. When I first painted my nails with this polish, I was amazed at how perfectly it applied in one coat. I like a more voluminous finish that hides any imperfections on the nail plate, so I applied two coats for the photos. The varnish dries very quickly, has a good gloss, and can be removed without problems.

5. OPI Nail Laquer NL T54 My Pointe Exactly
Photo in a bottle Detailed opinion:
This polish is from the spring 2012 collection dedicated to the New York Ballet. This is a gorgeous collection consisting of five pastel jelly polishes and one airy glitter topcoat. My Pointe Exactly is a light gray jelly with blue undertones. TX seemed to me a little more capricious than Passion, I needed to apply four layers, the varnish is also prone to bald spots, the brush must be held parallel to the nail. It is easy to remove, as expected, does not bubble, the gloss is excellent. Can be used to create “sandwiches” with glitter.

6. OPI Nail Laquer NL G28 Love.Angel.Music.Baby.
Photo in a bottle

Long opinion:
This polish is from the 2013 Christmas collection, created in collaboration with Gwen Stefani. This is a gold metallic champagne shade. The finish is stated by the manufacturer as satin, but to me it looks just matte. The polish looks great on nails and is 100% suitable for everyday manicure, a kind of golden nude. Two layers do not dry quickly, and in this case this can be a problem, since the matte finish does not require the use of a drying topcoat. Although I also like the glossy version of the varnish. When removing nail polish, the shimmer spreads across your fingers and you will have to wash your hands with soap. The photos show two coats of polish without topcoat.

7. OPI Nail Laquer NL T14 Austin-Tatious Turquoise
Photo in bottle

Detailed opinion:
This polish is from the Texas collection, released in the spring of 2011. The texture is yellow-green jelly with a lot of blue shimmer, which duochromes into purple (clearly visible in the photo in the bottle), resulting in a turquoise color. The polish can be worn solo, or on a black base, then the color of the base is not visible, only blue shimmer remains. The duochrome nature of the shimmer on nails is almost never noticeable. For the photos, I applied one coat of polish on a black base on the middle and ring fingers and three coats on the others. The varnish's own gloss is quite dull. It is relatively easy to remove; you may have to wash your hands with soap.

8. OPI Nail Laquer NL F61 Muir Muir On The Wall
Photo in a bottle Detailed opinion:
This polish is from the fall 2013 collection, dedicated to San Francisco. The dark gray jelly base contains a large amount of shimmer that duochromes from purple to copper. The pigment in my bottle started to streak, but that doesn’t bother me at all. The varnish is quite thin, I needed three coats for a deep, uniform color. It looks incredibly beautiful on nails, but it’s difficult to photograph - it always strives to appear purple, and catching the copper tint turned out to be a non-trivial task. The gloss is subdued and the varnish is easy to remove.

9. OPI Nail Laquer NL F54 Dining Al Frisco
Photo in a bottle

Long opinion:
Another polish from the San Francisco collection, released in the fall of 2013. This is a sky blue shimmer; silver and slightly larger bright blue shimmer also settle on the walls of the bottle, but the color looks uniform on the nails. The finish is a little frosty, maybe a little streaky. I needed two coats for full, bottle-like coverage. The gloss is muted and can be removed with some effort. In general, there is nothing special about this polish, but I used it quite a lot in nail art.

10. OPI Nail Laquer NL G30 Push And Shove
Photo in the bottle
Also included is this tiny 3.75 ml base:
Detailed opinion:
This is perhaps the most sensational polish from Gwen Stefani’s 2013 collection. The texture is a very liquid silver chrome, the finish of which is quite close to a mirror effect. According to the manufacturer's instructions, you need to apply one thin coat of the base from the kit and let it dry completely, then apply two thin coats of varnish, do not use a top coat. The covering is intended for one evening of wear only. Immediately regarding the latter - yes, this is indeed true, if you apply the varnish in the morning, you can find chips by the evening, but this is typical for all varnishes with a chrome finish, including much less spectacular ones. I don't know how well I captured it in my photos, but the nail polish looks amazing. If there are imperfections on the nails (ribbing, scratches, etc.), then they should be sanded, as the varnish will highlight even the most insignificant of them. The varnish should be applied with quick and confident movements, since the second layer can drag the first one along with it, or rather, it will definitely do this if you hesitate a little. Immediately after application, streaks from the brush are visible, but as they dry, they almost completely disappear, and the surface acquires a mirror-like shine. The varnish dries very quickly and can be removed without problems. This is just a great option for a special occasion!

11. OPI Nail Laquer NL B59 My Private Jet
Photo in a bottle Detailed opinion:
The famous “airplane”, one of the brand’s bestsellers. The dark gray jelly base contains tons of brown shimmer and holographic flakes. The holography is diffuse and very delicate, it is visible only in very bright lighting, more often the flakes look simply silvery. There is an old version of the polish with linear holography, I have a new one. In terms of technical characteristics, this varnish is a champion. It is very manageable, easy to apply, does not run under the cuticle, can be adjusted without problems, requires one dense layer for perfect coverage, and dries very quickly. However, the finish is quite dull; for a beautiful glossy finish you will have to use a topcoat. The varnish is easy to remove, despite the dark shade of the nail and the skin around it, it does not stain. In the photo, the varnish was applied in one layer without topcoat.

12. OPI Nail Laquer NL G29 4 In The Morning
Photo in a bottle Detailed opinion:
Another representative of Gwen Stefani’s 2013 collection. This is a wet asphalt shimmer. The finish is advertised as satin, but it's really not your typical matte finish. I thought for a long time about how to describe it, and decided that most of all it resembles the non-stick Teflon coating on a frying pan, both in color and texture. Very interesting effect, I like it. It looks bald in one coat, but looks perfect in two. Doesn't dry quickly. It also looks good with a glossy top, almost like in a bottle. When removed, it may stain the skin around the nail.

13. OPI Nail Laquer NL G27 I Sing In Color
Photo in the bottle Detailed opinion:
The last of the polishes I have from the Gwen Stefani 2013 collection. This is a dark red near-black cream.:( This polish, unfortunately, disappointed me on a number of counts. Firstly, the color of varnish applied in one layer is very different from two layers. It is bright crimson. Applying varnish in two layers so that they perfectly coincide with each other is very problematic (probably impossible for me), either the first layer will stick out slightly from under the second, or the second will slightly overlap the first, that is, the varnish at the border of application it will be applied in one bright crimson layer, so it reddens the cuticle and this is very noticeable. I could attribute this moment to my crankiness, but there is not a single polish in my collection that behaves like this. Secondly, the varnish may bubble. Finally, thirdly, removing this polish is a real pain, and if your fingers have imperfections in the form of dry skin and hangnails (like mine), then it’s just a nightmare. One of the advantages I would like to note is the brightest, crazy gloss. Although, who needs it with bubbles?

14. OPI Nail Laquer NL G24 Unfor-Greta-Bly Blue
Photo in the bottle Detailed opinion:
This polish is from the German collection, released in the fall of 2012. This is a dark blue shimmer. The base of the polish is blue-green, but this is not visible either in the bottle or on the nails; it is only visible against the light or on white paper. Easy to apply, slightly streaky, dries quickly. The gloss is muted. Removal is problematic, but much easier than I Sing In Color. Looks cute in a double manicure with Dining Al Frisco.

15. OPI Nail Laquer NL R54 Russian Navy
Photo in bottle

Detailed opinion:
This polish is from the autumn collection back in 2007, dedicated to Russia. Russian Fleet is a mix of blue and pink shimmer in a dirty blue base, all together looking purple at arm's length. The pink shimmer sticks to the sides of the bottle in beautiful, promising patterns. Unfortunately, on the nail it sinks into the base and the polish turns blue with a purple tint. The gloss is dull and requires a topcoat. The varnish is expectedly difficult to remove. Still, this is an excellent varnish depending on the mood, especially in bright sun or electric lighting, when a little pink shimmer becomes visible.

16. OPI Nail Laquer Snowflakes In The Air (no number)
Photo in bottle

Detailed opinion:
I received this polish in a set of three top coats, which also included the classic Top Coat (purple) and a matte top coat. As far as I know, this polish was produced specifically for this set and is not sold separately. It is a mixture of very small and small holographic hexagons in a transparent base, by today's standards it is very simple. The glitter holographs very well in almost any lighting. It fits well on the brush. After drying, the glitter protrudes slightly on the surface and requires a topcoat. Removable without problems when applied in one layer. The photo shows 2 coats of You're So Vain-illa + 1 coat of Snowflakes In The Air + 1 coat of drying topcoat.

17. OPI Nail Laquer NL F17 Comet In The Sky
Photo in the bottle Expanded opinion:
This polish is from the additional mini-collection Rollin' In Cashmere Trio from Gwen Stefani, released on the eve of the winter holidays 2014. The transparent base contains two types of hexagons - matte black and mica. Both come in four sizes from extra small to large. Mica glitter looks transparent when viewed from the right angle, but when you change the angle it begins to shimmer on the nail, as if appearing out of nowhere, as in this photo: I absolutely love this topcoat and will definitely buy the white Snow Globetrotter version if I come across it in the shop. Before applying, I turn the bottle upside down for a while, and large glitter is caught without problems, perhaps you don’t have to do this, for me it’s just a habit that often saves time and nerves. For the photo, I applied one coat of polish over four coats of My Pointe Exactly and finished with one coat of drying topcoat.

For short nails

Light shades on short nails are rarely used, as they visually reduce the already insufficient length, but the correctly chosen color will not cause any discomfort and the manicure will turn out feminine and delicate.

This design is suitable for any length and will fit well into both workdays and special occasions.

Another version of a multi-color manicure, but with an accent in the form of sparkles.

Use these sparkles as decorative elements. You just have to try to lay out an even and symmetrical pattern.

A monochromatic manicure for short nails using the simultaneously bright and calm shade You're Such a BudaPest from Opi.

Negative manicure with unpainted parts of the nail is still in trend - take advantage of it.

Nail designs with bright, muted shades are ideal for autumn, when there is not enough color around.

The trendy taupe background can be left as is or complemented with sparkles and designs.

This manicure definitely compensates for the lack of brightness. If this color seems provocative to you when going to the office or to an event, tone it down with a matte top.

Monochromatic manicure - nail design in one color tone

With drawings

Black is not on the list of fashionable colors, and all because black is always in fashion. The brand offers several options of different depths. Classic black is hidden under the name “Black Onyx”.

Once again, “Sun, Sea, and Sand in My Pants” is the most autumnal tone in the Opi palette. Despite its own consistency, the color combines well with the matte top and patterns.

Floral motifs remain fashionable in the fall of 2022. But the leaves don’t have to be green - make them closer to autumn, like on these marigolds.

It is not necessary to draw out all the subtleties of plants - they can be made so schematically. Cute girly manicure.

For sophisticated women, plant motifs are transformed into something like this – deep black with sparkles. Underneath the matte top coat lies OPI “Como Se Llama?”

When creating an autumn design, take into account “cozy” colors - milk chocolate and coffee with milk, as in this photo.

And, of course, what would autumn be without trees changing the color of their leaves? It is not necessary to make clear contours - something like a child’s drawing will complement brightly colored nails.

What is worth knowing about the company and can you trust it?

In order to decide on the purchase of varnishes, you need to know a minimum about the company that produces it. The fact is that OPI is now present in more than 100 countries around the world. This is where the brand's distribution points are located. Compared to its peers, the company shows the largest coverage of this segment, which is why many products have become popular. Now this brand has more than 30 famous awards. The firm that came closest to OPI has only 12 awards. Many customers note the quality of this brand. In addition, among his fans there are such famous people as Angelina Jolie and Madonna. You can trust their taste.
